Scotland’s beaches defy expectations of grey skies and pebbly shores, offering some of the most spectacular and unspoilt coastal scenery in Europe. Along the west coast and across the islands, you’ll find sweeping crescents of brilliant white shell sand and astonishingly clear turquoise waters that look almost tropical—right up until you dip a toe in.

The Outer Hebrides are the star of the show, with mile after mile of pristine sand and wild Atlantic vistas. Further south, the silver sands of Morar shimmer beside a string of sheltered bays that inspired the atmosphere of the film Local Hero. Even the east coast surprises visitors, with wide, sandy bays framed by rolling dunes, historic fishing villages and classic links golf courses.
